We have a new Puppy! Everyone, meet Minnie

Happy March everyone,

Life has taken on a whole new rhythm since we brought Minnie home towards the end of February. Minnie, our sweet little 1.5kg Yorkshire Terrier has settled into our family like she was always meant to be here. She’s curious, incredibly adorable and tiny and independent.  She is the cutest distraction when I am working from home.

From the moment she arrived, Minnie has been a source of joy, laughter, and a many adorable moments along the way for my husband and me.

Settling Into Our Hearts and Home

When we picked Minnie up from her lovely owner, we weren’t quite sure what to expect. It happened quite quickly.  One moment me and hubby Matty are on a road trip up the far north and the next thing you know, we have a puppy! We were going to get a new doggo end of March but my friend who knew we were looking to get a puppy explained to us that puppies like Minnie don't come along often.

Once we got her home, within days, it was clear that she was going to rule the house with her tiny paws. Her relaxed nature surprised us, especially in the car—she sleeps through 90% of the ride, only perking up when something interesting happens, like a loud truck or an open window. It’s as if she knows she’s safe and loved, and she’s perfectly content to nap through the journey.  We travelled 8 hours with her in total on our way home from her far north originations, with an overnight stay in Taupo at a pet friendly Air B&B.

At home, Minnie quickly discovered her favorite spots. Whether it's a sunny patch on the floor where she loves to nap or the cozy nook near the couch where she watches the garden birds visit, she’s claimed her territory. But her favorite place? Curled up right next to us.  She follows Matty and I wherever we go, depending on who is home or more importantly, who has snacks.  We do call her the snack monster.  One of her many nicknames.

Puppy Antics and Endless Laughter

Minnie has a way of keeping us on our toes. One minute she’s a sleepy little angel, and the next she’s darting across the room, chasing after her older sister Nyah or squeaking her favorite toy. Her antics remind me to slow down and enjoy the little moments but enjoy some fun in each day.  Watching her explore the world with her tiny nose and curious eyes is like seeing everything through fresh eyes.

She’s also a bit of a problem solver—figuring out how to get her tiny paws on things she shouldn’t. It’s hard to stay mad when she looks up at us with that cheeky grin that says, “Oops, did I do that?” I have been through two air pod cases and two phone cases since she joined our family.

Building a Routine (That Still Revolves Around Minnie)

We’re learning that life with a puppy means adapting to a new routine. We are only now starting to leave her home alone for small amounts of time (although we do have a puppy cam set up).  Minnie is teaching us patience as we navigate potty training and all the little surprises that come with having a pup.  But her little wagging tail and the way she greets at us with extreme joy when we get home makes it all worthwhile.

Even Nyah, our older dog, has warmed up to Minnie. Nyah was a bit skeptical at first, but now they’re often found side by side—Nyah keeping a watchful eye on her new little sister. Watching them bond has been one of the sweetest joys of this journey.

The Inspiration Behind New Adventures

Minnie isn’t just bringing joy to our home—she’s also inspiring new creative ideas. Her playful nature and unique personality have sparked ideas for adorable accessories and outfits for small dogs, which I’m exploring in my Kiari Creative Etsy store. From cozy sweaters to fun, themed outfits, I’m excited to share these creations with other dog lovers who want to spoil their fur babies as much as we do.  My favorite so far though is this Digital Wall Art print inspired by a photo I took of her on her first real adventure at the Martinborough Fair.

Memories in the Making

Life with Minnie is a beautiful reminder that love often comes in the smallest packages. She’s teaching us to slow down, laugh more, and appreciate the simple joys that a little furry friend can bring. As we continue this journey, we’re excited to create more memories, filled with wagging tails, puppy kisses, and heartwarming moments.

If you’re a fellow dog lover, be sure to check out some of the adorable doggie item's I am listing in my store—each piece inspired by the love and joy that Minnie has brought into our lives.

P.S. Keep an eye out on my  Etsy store, where I’ll be adding a range of dog-themed accessories and gifts inspired by Minnie’s adventures! Whether it’s a cozy outfit or a fun, personalized treat, there’s something for every pup and their human.
