Tiny Tweaks, Big Changes: The Secret Power of Small Shifts

The other day I was pondering the concept of TINY TWEAKS and how small consistent changes can really bring big results.

I feel like I'm always waiting for the big breakthrough—the major thing, or that one creative idea that will finally usher my dreams, ideas, and goals into the real world—just one BIG BANG moment. But some things happened this week that got me thinking about TINY TWEAKS—and how true transformation and change often begins with something much smaller.

Maybe the key to change isn’t some big leap—but gentle, doable daily changes and tasks. Non-negotiable ones perhaps.

I have a lovely colleague who goes for a run early every morning. It’s her non-negotiable. She (and her doggie) consider it the most important part of their day. Rain, hail, or shine—or in our case, since we live in Wellington, New Zealand —rain, WIND, or shine! I really respect her commitment to that daily run.

TINY TWEAKS can lead to big changes that eventually set you on a completely different course. So, perhaps we don’t always need to completely overhaul our busy lives. just a tweak to our daily routine.

What led me to think this, (and this is the reason why it is a double blog week lol) is that this week, I had one of those moments.

I stepped out of my comfort zone and had a meeting with the team at the NZ based Life Education Trust—yes, home of the iconic Harold the Giraffe! 🦒 I went to talk about my books, not knowing what to expect. Because it is out of my comfort zone and new, I was nervous. Sharing your creative heart can feel vulnerable.

But I left feeling so encouraged. So uplifted. So aligned to my journey. I light up when I talk about my books and the story behind each one and they aligned with the key themes that the Trust share.   A small step - one conversation - sparked something bigger in me. It reminded me that these small steps are the breakthrough. They are the bridge between where we are now and where we are headed. I hope for many more conversations like these on my journey - that's for sure! The team there are SO LOVELY!

Maybe we could take small steps like swapping scrolling for journaling before bed. Choosing a walk instead of saying, “I’ll go to the gym someday.” Shifting a single thought from “I can’t” to “What if I could?”

These TINY TWEAKS don’t look like much in the moment - but stacked over time? They become momentum. They become movement. They become SOMETHING (the real-life kind).

So, if you have been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of where to begin, start small. Start tiny. Start today. Make a TINY TWEAK.

Ask yourself:

What’s one thing I could tweak this week?
What’s one new thought I could choose?
What’s one action that feels doable, even if it’s small?

Then do that. Faithfully. Kindly. Repeatedly. Excitedly.

Because small doesn’t mean insignificant.  And tweak by tweak, we are rewriting our story.
